The Plan Adoption Process has begun!

What’s Happened So Far?

  • FEBRUARY 21 – APRIL 26  |  The Public Review Draft was published for public comment.
  • MAY 30  |  A Planning Commission Work Session was held to review comments on the Public Review Draft.
  • JUNE 19  |  The Planning Commission held a public hearing on the Public Hearing Draft of the Plan (i.e., the Public Review Draft updated to address public comments as discussed at the May 30 work session).
  • JUNE 20  |  The Planning Commission considered a motion to recommend adoption of Public Hearing Draft to the Assembly. This motion was tabled to the July 18th Regular Meeting.
  • July 18, 6:30-8:30 PM | The Planning Commission unanimously recommended adoption of the Public Hearing Draft, as amended.

What’s Next

  • AUGUST 8  |  The Draft Plan Revised for Assembly Introduction (i.e., the Public Hearing Draft as amended by the Planning Commission) was posted to the Borough website as part of August 13th Assembly meeting packet.
  • AUGUST 13  |  A Comprehensive Plan Ordinance was Introduced to the Borough Assembly
  • AUGUST 27  |  The Borough Assembly will held its first public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan Ordinance
  • SEPTEMBER 10  |  The Borough Assembly will hold its second public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan Ordinance (reference: Draft Plan for Assembly Introduction and any potential amendments). Note: The Assembly may adopt the plan at this meeting or continue deliberations and have additional public hearing(s) at future meetings. If passed, the plan would be finalized to include any assembly approved amendments and posted to the Borough website.

Finalize and adopt the plan.

Purpose

We’re Revising the 2012 Comprehensive Plan!

The updated 2035 Haines Borough Comprehensive Plan will be a combination of long-term vision, goals, and practical strategies that will guide decisions about land use, transportation, utilities, economic development, housing, and more. It will provide a roadmap for implementation, with clear priorities and actions.

The current comprehensive plan can be viewed here; it was last updated in 2012.

The Project Team

The Haines Borough has hired a team led by Agnew::Beck Consulting to assist the Borough with a revision of the Comprehensive Plan. Agnew::Beck is partnering with Southeast-based Rain Coast DataCorvus Design, and Fairbanks-based RESPEC to ensure the planning process, and ultimately the final plan, meets community needs.
